Watch video: Life below the surface in the Lærdalselva River - week 25

In week 25, our underwater camera captured several exciting observations in The Lærdal River Among other things, three sea trout, an eel and several salmon passed in front of the lens.

What is actually happening beneath the surface? The Lærdal River ? The camera at The Lærdal Wild Salmon Visitor Centre gives us a unique insight into life in the river throughout the season.

On Tuesday, June 16, three beautiful sea trout passed the camera. Usually, most sea trout arrive in July, so these three were out early.

The next day, an eel appeared. The eel has the opposite life cycle of salmon and sea trout. It is born in the Saragossa Sea and migrates up the rivers to grow. Although scientists know where the eel spawns, no one has observed the spawning.

On Thursday, June 18, three beautiful salmon passed by the camera. Two of them lined up right in front of the lens. If you look closely in the film, you can see salmon lice on one of the fish when it turns around.

At our center you can experience, explore, play and learn more about wild salmon. We are open every day from May 1st to September 30th.
