About us

The purpose of the Lærdal Wild Salmon Visitor Center is to provide knowledge about wild Atlantic salmon.

Furthermore, we will facilitate dialogue, communication and interaction between stakeholders with interests related to wild salmon and their habitat.

A deeper understanding of salmon

The cornerstone of a sustainable society is an understanding of the intrinsic value of nature and species, and an interaction between nature and humans, built on these values.

The wild salmon is an environmental indicator – if it is doing well, the environment is doing well. We therefore want to provide a deeper understanding of the salmon and its life within a larger framework. Open new perspectives as a basis for reflection, create a desire to know and learn more, create interest and enthusiasm for caring for the wild salmon and its habitat.

Nationally and locally, there are strong tensions and contradictions between actors – power companies, salmon fishermen, fishing rights holders, indigenous peoples, fish farmers, etc. – with interests linked to wild salmon and their habitats.

Through dialogue, seminars, conferences and conversations, we want to facilitate common understanding and knowledge to gather strength and take care of wild salmon.
