Watch video: Salmon and sea trout with lice on their way up The Lærdal River

Our underwater camera has captured fish with salmon lice on their way up the river.

IN The Lærdal River , right outside the center, we have placed an underwater camera. The camera films what is happening in the river. We show the live image on a screen in the exhibition at the visitor center.

On Wednesday, May 27th, a salmon passed our camera on its way up The Lærdal River . If you look closely, you will see salmon lice far back on the salmon's belly. Lice do not tolerate fresh water and fall off after a week. If you catch salmon with lice, you have the finest and fattest food fish that comes from the sea.

The next day a large sea trout arrived. The dots go further down on the belly than on the salmon. It has a long head and a hook on its jaw. This shows that it is a male fish. This one also has salmon lice on it. (NB! We have slowed down the speed of the recording you see here, the fish actually swims faster).

At our center you can experience, explore, play and learn more about wild salmon. We are open every day from May 1st to September 30th.
